The Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District (TBAISD) serves as a central support system for 16 public, 4 charter and 14 non-public schools within Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska and Leelanau counties. There are 57 Intermediate School Districts (ISD's) or Regional Educaiton Service Agencies (RESA's) in the state of Michigan. No two area exactly alike. Each bases its work on the specific needs of its constituent public school districts. All offer leadership, programs, and services in the area of instruction, career and technical education, special education, technology and business related functions, many of which are either too expensive or too extensive to be offered by individual districts. TBAISD's mission, "Leading Lifetime Learning" reflects its commitment to providing continually expanding educational opportunities for all learners.
TBAISD services are aimed at assisting school districts with answering three essential questions for teaching and learning:
- What do students need to know and be able to do? - Curriculum
- How will we know they have learned it?- Assessment
- What strategies work for all students and what will we do for students who have difficulty learning? - Instruction
